About Yi Kebab Bar
Nestled in the heart of Monterey Park at 610 E Garvey Ave, Yi Kebab Bar emerges as a culinary crossroads where smoky barbecue traditions meet the bold flavors of Mediterranean and Chinese cuisine. This vibrant eatery redefines casual dining by offering a menu that transcends geographical boundaries, inviting patrons to explore skewered specialties alongside cross-cultural creations. With its prime location in one of Southern California’s most diverse dining corridors, the restaurant has become a gathering spot for those seeking both familiar comforts and adventurous flavor fusions.
The essence of Yi Kebab Bar lies in its mastery of open-fire cooking techniques, where premium cuts of meat and fresh vegetables achieve perfect char through time-honored kebab preparation methods. Marinated proteins ranging from succulent lamb to tender chicken sizzle on vertical rotisseries, their aromatic spices permeating the dining space with an irresistible allure. Yet the establishment surprises diners by weaving Chinese culinary influences into its offerings, creating a unique hybrid menu that might feature Szechuan-spiced kebabs or wok-tossed noodle sides alongside classic hummus and tabbouleh.
At the core of the experience is a commitment to communal dining, where shareable platters encourage conversation and connection. The space balances modern minimalism with cultural accents, from mosaic tilework reminiscent of Mediterranean courtyards to subtle nods to Chinese design aesthetics in its tableware. Staff members double as culinary ambassadors, guiding guests through menu combinations that might pair smoky beef kofta with chili-oil dumplings or suggest cooling yogurt sauces to complement five-spice-rubbed pork skewers.
What sets Yi Kebab Bar apart is its refusal to be pigeonholed – the kitchen effortlessly transitions from lunchtime pita wraps stuffed with garlic-marinated chicken to evening specials incorporating black bean-glazed short ribs. Beverage offerings mirror this cultural synthesis, with traditional Turkish coffee sharing menu space with craft cocktails featuring Asian-inspired ingredients like lychee or yuzu. The establishment’s 626-656-6162 phone line buzzes with takeout orders from both kebab enthusiasts and those craving unexpected mashups, like cumin-dusted lamb chops served with scallion pancakes.
Sustainability and freshness govern the kitchen’s operations, with daily deliveries of produce from local markets and careful attention to meat sourcing. Vegetarian diners find equal consideration through innovative options such as charred halloumi skewers or tofu satay with peanut-hoisin glaze. The menu’s seasonal rotations ensure regulars always encounter new interpretations, perhaps a winter special of five-spice duck kebabs or summer-limited watermelon-feta salads with chili crisp topping.
As day transitions to evening, the space adapts seamlessly – sunlight filtering through geometric light fixtures gives way to intimate pendant lighting, while the aroma of smoldering oak chips mingles with citrusy cocktail aromas. Whether fueling up for nearby Garvey Ranch Park adventures or unwinding after exploring Monterey Park’s cultural landmarks, guests discover a culinary hub that celebrates global flavors without pretense. Through its fearless blending of barbecue traditions and cross-continental inspirations, Yi Kebab Bar carves a distinctive niche in California’s competitive dining landscape, one skewer at a time.
The restaurant’s strategic position along East Garvey Avenue makes it equally accessible to local residents and visitors exploring the San Gabriel Valley’s renowned food scene. Regulars appreciate the consistency of perfectly charred edges on their chicken shish kebabs, while first-time diners marvel at unexpected combinations like gochujang-glazed beef ribs served with herb-flecked flatbreads. In a city celebrated for its authentic ethnic eateries, Yi Kebab Bar stands out by embracing culinary duality – honoring traditional techniques while fearlessly innovating across flavor profiles.
From lunchtime office workers grabbing quick yet flavorful pita wraps to evening crowds sharing mezze platters under strings of Edison bulbs, the establishment cultivates an atmosphere of gastronomic discovery. Special dietary needs are met with equal enthusiasm, whether crafting gluten-free marinades or developing vegan “meat” alternatives using seasoned king oyster mushrooms. As the scent of smoldering fruitwood blends with the tang of house-pickled vegetables, Yi Kebab Bar solidifies its reputation as Monterey Park’s premier destination for those seeking barbecue traditions reimagined through a global lens.
The phone (626-656-6162) rings steadily with orders for family-style feasts, while in-house diners linger over baklava-inspired egg tarts and cardamom-infused cocktails. Through its thoughtful synthesis of fire-kissed proteins, cross-cultural accompaniments, and warm hospitality, this Garvey Avenue gem continues to write its own rules in the art of skewered cuisine – proving that sometimes, the most memorable flavors emerge when culinary worlds collide.

Not a bad place. Prices aren't too bad. Seasoning is what it is. A lot of the skewer places don't really have much difference to make it distinct, but this place tends to add a bit more kick to their spice blends, which is great. The tower of beer is a nice touch! I'd prefer taller towers, but the fact that there are towers, is cool, nonetheless. Best of all, service was the best! My major complaint was that sitting outside, we had a canopy covering us, and there were some other guys smoking. Yeah, it's technically "outside" but I think they were really bending the rules, and kinda' stank up the place. They should only allow smoking in a tiny corner of the outdoor seating, away from the doorways, but if they put up that canopy, they really shouldn't allow smoking at all. That's not the staff's fault, but be careful with others you're sharing space with. Also, as nice as the canopy is, and nicely lit, if you expect to have a conversation as the trucks and cars are roaring by on Garvey Ave, that's gonna' be tough. So you may want to consider eating indoors instead.

This place is great! This my first time trying Hong Kong-style bbq skewers, and it won't be the last. The seasoning blend is cumin-forward, which I love. It' s ala carte, and the selection is broad and as challenging or as tame as you'd like. I really enjoyed the chewy Backstrap skewers. The service is friendly and prompt, and the prices are reasonable. I went late, around 10:30pm.
